Hanama Bay

No visit to Oahu would be complete without a stop at Hanama Bay — or in our case two. The whole gang dropped in to look at the awesome reef-in-a-volcano on our way to Sea Life Park. They have added some amenities outside the nature preserve so you can grab a snack and a shaved ice to enjoy while taking [&hellip

Pearl Harbor, Arizona Memorial

Sunday morning, the group took a tour of the Honolulu sights that included time at Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial. Our family headed over to the USS Bowfin submarine while the others went off to explore the museums and snack bar during the wait for our launch to the memorial. This was the third submarine Mitchell and I had [&hellip

Honolulu tour

Early Sunday morning, the group set sail on a three-hour tour (a three-hour tour… ) Actually, the tour of Honolulu was longer but it did start out driving by the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor where a portion of title sequence for Gilligan’s Island was filmed. (An interesting side note I’ve read about the show’s opening — look for the flags at [&hellip

North Shore

After we left the Polynesian Cultural Center, we headed northwest to find our around the north corner and get a view of the sunset. While not exactly what Susan had in mind, we found a nice sandy beach with a rock jetty to explore in the waning light. Steve and Mitchell spotted a sea turtle about 20 feet off shore [&hellip

Polynesian Cultural Center

On Saturday, the group hopped in the van and headed north to the Dole Plantation, along the North Shore and around the horn to the Polynesian Cultural Center. We arrived later in the afternoon than planned, but still got to take the canoe ride through the park and make the leisurely walk through the various “island” villages. Mitchell, Steve and [&hellip

Dole Plantation

On Saturday, the group hopped in the van and headed north making a stop at the Dole Plantation before continuing on to the Polynesian Cultural Center. We started out in the maze before catching a ride on the Pineapple Express. While waiting for the train Michelle’s eagle eye spotted a gecko on a leaf and Steve discovered a skink hiding [&hellip

Pacific Air Museum

One of the big “must-see” attractions for our Hawaii adventure was a quick trip over to Fords Island to see the B-17 restoration project at the Pacific Air Museum. Our time was short and there was plenty I would have loved to look at more, but I did get a close up mini-tour of the legendary Swamp Ghost. Delayed by [&hellip

Dinner at Benihana Waikiki

Our second dinner in Hawaii was with Ben and Corky at the Benihana restaurant right in our hotel complex. The chef gave an outstanding performance and the kids were thoroughly entertained. McKenzie got a rice panda plate that was too cute.   (make sure to click a thumbnail to see the full picture, then you can use the arrow keys [&hellip

Kailua Beach

After going to Sea Life Park, the group put on swim suits and headed up the road to beautiful Kailua Beach. Although the winter water was too silty for effective snorkeling the kids had a great time in the rolling surf.  This is the beach my mom frequented when she lived in Kailua and we were able to drive by [&hellip

Sea Life Park

Our first day included a late-morning stop at Sea Life Park to watch the dolphin show and see the new shark tank. There were as many as five dolphins (four dolphins and a wolphin) performing simultaneously. We also saw the sea turtles and a penguin habitat, as well as sea lions and more. Mitchell and McKenzie headed over to the [&hellip
